58:35 I forget which book it's in, I'm paraphrasing here so I might get some wrong, but I remember reading it from Chief's perspective and he does recognize the things done to him and other spartans are unethical but he isn't angry about it now, he thinks in another time they would have faced some sort of trial realistically once enough time had gone by, at least ONI would, and those responsible. However He pushes this out of his mind because while he knows this, he sees the marines, and regular non enlisted humans dying to survive the covenant, and sees him and the spartans as one of the best defenses against the covenant. He thought to himself about how to best use the gifts forced upon him and lamented that ordinary humans were not as strong and as powerful as him and other spartans and lamented about the cost to create them and train them and the technology of their suits and procedures. He felt respect and sympathy for regular people fighting against a superior force. I imagine if the covenant was never a thing and the halo universe was soley about human conflict, the spartans would have to come against ONI or stand with them at a certain point as humans amongst themselves.

The way I view "Smart" AI and "Souls" in Halo is that they come from the brain scans of recently deceased humans, this is similar to prometheans but as long as the brain is fresh enough or preserved it's stable for around 8 years. To me, The "Smart AI" in halo are not "AI" as much as they are Ghosts. practically literal ghosts, a soul, they are an incorporeal hologram in a data chip, they are a human consciousness that is given the means to process vast amounts of information and tasks. They're only "artificial intelligence" in the sense that they were artificially grafted into technology and maintain their intelligence. All other "Smart AI" in halo are made from recently desceased, and do not see themselves strictly as their former lives continuing, they see themselves as based on the person's mind they came from. Cortana and any possible cortana models to come are different. She is made from Living tissue, she says this as much at the start of halo 4 as well. Cortana is a version of Halsey, just a copy of her brain made from a living flash clone. Cortana was a Living copy of halsey before she was turned into an AI. In a sense she was robbed, she never had a chance to live her own human life to draw from. Even if her supposed body may have broke down or was maybe even just a brain I'm uncertain. So when we say "do AI's have souls" I don't really believe in the soul or some mystical after life, but in halo, there are analogues in technology, and in that sense a "smart AI" is not a jumbled slop LLM code, It's a trapped soul. It is a person's essence that will die again, but for a brief time they are given a new purpose. Cortana doesn't have a soul she is a soul.

Roxana is one of the best romances in the game, almost even better than Kyra! They really did a good job with the chemistry between A/K and Roxana!

I played AC since the first one in 2007. I like the first three because the story and characters are solid but Odyssey, I had a lot of fun with it and I enjoyed it very much. Kassandra, the music, the combat, the other characters, the beautiful Ancient Greek world. The story can be better but it's not so terrible either. I dislike the modern day bits because they're very intrusive and boring. Still, Odyssey is my favourite AC title. I only played Kassandra though. I did try Alexios but I found the VA's performance a bit bombastic for me so I didn't go very far with him. I detest Basim so I had no interest in Mirage. After seeing the trailer and game play vids for Shadow, Valhalla is the last of the AC titles in my library. Not getting any more. Good that you're enjoying Odyssey. 👍

343 had a great story with Chief and Cortana on this one but fumbled with the Forerunners and explaining it. I was also really confused on my first play-through as a huge Halo fan at the time

Halo 5's marketing had a lot of fans hyped. I cannot express the disappointment I felt over Halo 5's campaign with mere words. It's like the marketing team were forbidden contact with the developers and vice versa, so each had to conjure a plot on their own with the same characters. If only what they made up was switched...

The thing I love is just how eerily quiet the station becomes after the Didact activates the composer. No background music, no ambience, just complete silence. A bitter contrast to the cutscene a few seconds before. It makes the Didact composing everyone hit so much harder.

Fun fact. Sgt. Stacker, the guy talking to you during the scorpion battle part? (About 1 hours in) He's one of the Marines who stormed the Truth and Reconciliation with you all the way back in halo CE. He's been in every game, shows up in a lot of levels, and has been along for the whole ride.

this is what i want in a video game graphics, I don't care if you use the greatest render on a steak to make it realistic. I just want cinematic views that i can interact with.

I always cry during that scene at the end of this level as well, in fact a cried again watching this video. Cortana just sounding so scarred, after everything they've been through and trying to hold it together, that they'll get rid of her. When you think about it as the very clear allegory for dementia that it is, it just becomes even more heartbreaking, that she doesn't want to be put down. And the fact that she also mentions not wanting to be separated from Chief, and not wanting him to forget her. You can tell that Chief as well is struggling so much, and is trying so hard to help Cortana and reassure her which is so sweet. And seeing both of their reactions to everyone dying in such a horrific way, you can tell that they are both heavily shaken by that as well but as you said, have very different ways of coping with it. The irony being that, the supposed robot in this situation Cortana is much more expressive while the human being who has just been so conditioned to not express himself Chief is just trying not to focus on it and move on to the next thing. And yet it's always Cortana who is treated more like the machine. While you could say that Cortana is a copy of Halsey, she's clearly grown and developed into her own person over time, just like humans do when they become a different person from their parents. Very excited to see your reaction to the ending of this game!

Cortana has lived more than her recommended life span. spent a considerable amount of time being tortured by the gravemind and its logic plague. The dementia connection some make feels right. the person you love is there. but in moments they become something totally different. This game is chief fighting to keep that one piece alive.

I’ve been on a ship out at sea for nine months so I can kinda see where she’s coming from. Imagine spending 4 whole years cut off from friends, family and society as a whole because you were working on something important, only for it to be thrown in the trash. That’s basically 4 years of your life wasted. I know it may seem small on the outside looking in but try being on the inside looking out. It’s a very different experience.

Btw, one observation I'd find interesting about cortana is that she uses her human form A LOT, even when there's no one around to observe her because for all intents and purposes, she could just be a disembodied voice like jarvis. Especially when you consider that she has to physically move her body to do things instead of just doing it like an ai similar to jarvis would. Who knows, maybe im reading into it a bit too much but i just find it interesting how attached she is to a physical body
